Mohamed Amin
Data & AI Solutions Architect

Mohamed Amin

I help large, highly regulated organizations turn messy data problems into secure, working cloud systems, and bring people along for the ride.

About

I'm a data and AI consultant with 15 years spanning software engineering, data engineering, and solution architecture. I help organizations work out what their data should actually do for the business, then design and build the secure, well-governed systems that get them there.

I build enterprise data platforms from the ground up, migrate legacy and on-prem data warehouses into the cloud, and stand up self-serve analytics that open data up across the broader organization. I work hands-on across data engineering, data architecture, and data governance, and design for the strict security and compliance that regulated environments demand. I also enable the teams behind these platforms, training data professionals to run and build on them themselves.

Experience
Senior Cloud Solution Architect, Data & AI
Microsoft Canada
2021 – Now

Deliver professional services to Microsoft Fabric customers as their lead technical advisor. I run discovery and high-impact proofs of concept, shape long-term platform roadmaps, and guide projects end to end, from initial workshops through architecture, migration, and delivery, working closely with lead architects and senior leadership in highly regulated environments.

Senior Data Engineer
Government of Canada
2019 – 2021

Built a next-generation data platform on Azure Databricks serving thousands of employees. Architected the full stack (networking, identity, high availability, CI/CD) and took it through security accreditation at the PBMM level (ITSG-33 / NIST 800-53).

Software Engineer
Huawei Technologies Canada
2016 – 2019

Built zero-to-one research prototypes in network automation, intent-based networking, and SD-WAN, several of which fed into commercial products. One delivered operational intelligence through a real-time streaming application.

Graduate Researcher
Carleton University
2015 – 2016

Applied data science research using NLP to study business ecosystems, building end-to-end Python pipelines for crawling, preprocessing, modeling, and visualization.

Software Developer
Nokia
2011 – 2015

Delivered telecom policy-control (PCRF) solutions for Tier-1 and Tier-2 carriers, covering interoperability, upgrades, and solution design. Also built production features in Java EE, including an early prototype of a smart plan builder.

Selected Work
Platform launch
Positioned and launched Microsoft Fabric as the enterprise data platform for a large organization, going live with five production use cases and expanding the rollout across multiple lines of business.
Data platform
Stood up a multi-year cloud data platform supporting mission-critical initiatives, and led a large on-prem data warehouse migration to Azure alongside a delivery partner.
Self-serve BI
Moved 150 analysts from a notebook-based environment onto a self-serve consumption layer, establishing Fabric as the leading data platform across the org.
Warehouse migration
Migrated a central data warehouse off legacy appliances onto a modern lakehouse, enabling a mission-critical national program.
Case modernization
Shaped the solution architecture and delivery plan for a multi-million-dollar migration of a central case-processing system to Fabric and Purview.
